ThinkPad X61でchkdskができない件はどうやらResucue and Recoveryの問題だったらしい

以前日記で書いたThinkPad X61 (Windows Vista Ultimate)でchkdskができなくなった件について、昨日LenovoのSystem Updateを実行したところ、こんなアップデートが含まれていた。

Rescue and Recovery (RnR) 4.2 patch for several RnR problems when used with
Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista

Introduction
============
The RnR tvtrnr_sdpatch10.exe file corrects the following problems with the Rescue and
Recovery 4.2 program when used with Windows XP or Windows Vista.
1. Corrects a scan disk problem in Windows XP and Windows Vista.
2. Corrects a Windows Error Reporting (WER) problem that could cause the RnR
program to lose communications with Windows Vista.
3. Corrects an error when entering into the PDA after enabling the FastRestore
function and installing SP1 on Windows Vista 64-bit systems.
4. This patch replaces the Rescue and Recovery 4.2 patch for Windows Vista
Service Pack 1.

なんだかよくわからないが、アップデートを適用して再起動したら、今までずっと処理がキャンセルされていたchkdskが何ヶ月ぶりかで処理された。HDは160GBだが、phase1から5までの処理で3時間くらいまでは見守っていたが、いつ終わるかわからないのでそのまま放置していたところ翌朝ちゃんとVistaのログイン画面になっていた。この文面を読むと、どうもVista自体の問題ではなく、Rescue and Recoveryのパッチの問題ということなのかな。でもどうしてそれがchkdskに影響するのだろう。
